Basketball Recap: Gateway Comes Up Short

Gateway's game on Saturday was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They came up short against the Bear Creek Bears, falling 63-42. The Olympians haven't had much luck with the Bears recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why Gateway lost, don't look at Bryan Lozano. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 10 on his way to 14 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Angel Couto, who posted four points.

Even though they lost, Gateway smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Bear Creek's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alen Avdic, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 boards. Elias Pacheco was another key player, going 9 of 17 on his way to 19 points.

Gateway's loss dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Bear Creek, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-6.

Gateway will welcome Aurora Central at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bear Creek, they will host Ralston Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Ralston Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
