Pius X hasn't had much luck against Skutt Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Thunderbolts will head out to take on the SkyHawks at 7:00 p.m. Pius X has given up an average of 26.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Friday, Pius X took a blow against Norris, falling 38-7. While losing is never fun, the Thunderbolts can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 68th, while the Titans are ranked 19th).
Even if they lost, Pius X's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Zeke Mullendore, Marcus Roberts, and Anthony Iburg, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, Skutt Catholic waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They really took it to the Antlers for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-8 win. With the SkyHawks ahead 21-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Skutt Catholic's win came from a few key players Pius X will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brenden Ruth, who rushed for 83 yards on only 11 carries, and also caught one TD. Those 83 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Luke Pierson also helped with two scores in total.
Skutt Catholic was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 243 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Skutt Catholic's record now sits at 4-1. As for Pius X, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Pius X was dealt a bruising 55-14 defeat at the hands of Skutt Catholic when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Thunderbolts, Dylan Van Dyke (who rushed for 107 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries, and also threw for 277 yards and three TDs on only 19 passes) won't be suiting up this time.
