Basketball Recap: Sprayberry Takes a Loss

Sprayberry played a tough match on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by the River Ridge Knights 72-38. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 114th, while the Knights are ranked first).

River Ridge's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makayla Roberson, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 15 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Finley Parker, who went 5 for 11 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

Sprayberry has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for River Ridge, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 17-1.

Sprayberry and Harrison will face off at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. As for River Ridge, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Southridge at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. River Ridge knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 matches -- so hopefully Southridge likes a good challenge.
