Baseball Recap: Lake Station Edison Comes Up Short

Lake Station Edison dropped their record down to 5-11 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Westville Blackhawks, falling 15-5. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Fighting Eagles of the 5-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Jordan Hastings was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Aiden Rowan was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for Westville, the win snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 6-14 record. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

On Westville's side, Ryder Becker and Maverick Markos did most of the damage at the plate: Becker went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Markos went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. The Blackhawks are undefeated when Markos posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-14 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jacob Kozub, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Coming up, Lake Station Edison will look to defend their home field on Saturday against Washington Township at 10:00 a.m. As for Westville, they will head out to square off against Hobart at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
