Basketball Recap: St. Edward's Find Success

St. Edward won the last time they faced Morningside Academy and things went their way on Tuesday too. The St. Edward's Pirates slipped by the Morningside Academy Eagles 54-53.

St. Edward's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cody Simmonds, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 rebounds. The game was Simmonds' third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Jayzere Cannon, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

St. Edward's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Morningside Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being AJ Chang, who posted 26 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Chang is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Bell, who went 6 for 14 on his way to 13 points in addition to six boards and three steals.

St. Edward's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Morningside Academy, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-7.

St. Edward's has already played their next contest (against Benjamin), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Morningside Academy will face off against Synergy Magnet K12 at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Morningside Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.2 points per game this season.
