The Evergreen Park Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Brother Rice Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Evergreen Park is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Evergreen Park fell victim to Oak Forest and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 11-0 to the Bengals. The game marked the first time this year in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.
Evergreen Park saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Rourke, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, Brother Rice waltzed into their match on Thursday with 15 straight wins... but they left with 16. They had just enough and edged out the Fighting 59ers 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Crusaders have posted against the Fighting 59ers since May 21, 2016.
Brother Rice also got a great performance from Brayden McKendrick as he tossed 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Brady Cunningham, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Cartolano, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Brother Rice's victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Evergreen Park, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Evergreen Park hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Brother Rice struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Evergreen Park couldn't quite get it done against Brother Rice in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
