Softball Recap: Richland Center Takes a Loss

Richland Center had lost 12 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-5 to make it 13. They fell just short of the Dodgeville Dodgers by a score of 4-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Hornets of the 14-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Kyree Fischer was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out seven batters over 8.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

As for Dodgeville, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-4. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.9 runs on average over those games.

Like Richland Center, Dodgeville also got a great game from a two-way player: Ava Lord. On the mound, she struck out six batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Lord was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brienna Wasley, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Emma Dougherty was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Richland Center wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 15-0 win against Mauston on the 25th. As for Dodgeville, they have also already played their next contest, a 6-1 loss against Brodhead on the 28th.
