Baseball Game Preview: San Domenico Panthers vs. Gateway Gators

The San Domenico Panthers will venture away from home to take on the Gateway Gators at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

San Domenico fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against The Bay School on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Breakers by a score of 2-1. The loss continues a trend for the Panthers in their meetings with the Breakers: they've now lost five in a row.

San Domenico saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Oliver Bennett, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Gateway was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat dating back to last season. They came up short against Galileo, falling 12-2. Gators fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Lions since on Tuesday.

Luca Velasquez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

Gateway's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for San Domenico, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Gateway's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: San Domenico has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .492. It's a different story for Gateway, though, as they've only averaged .356. Will they be able to contain San Domenico's hitters?

San Domenico took their win against Gateway in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 17-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Domenico since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
