Preview: Loyd Star Hornets vs. West Lincoln Bears
Loyd Star is 1-9 against West Lincoln since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Loyd Star Hornets' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the West Lincoln Bears at 6:00 p.m. on December 18th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Loyd Star beat Puckett 54-50.
Loyd Star found their leader in underclassman Maddie Kate Britt, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Britt has scored at least 25% of Loyd Star's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Womack, who scored 13 points.
West Lincoln has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 20 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Mississippi School for the Deaf 57-6 on the road. That 57-6 margin sets a new team best for West Lincoln this season.
Loyd Star pushed their record up to 6-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for West Lincoln, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season.
Loyd Star took a serious blow against West Lincoln when the teams last played back in January, falling 60-21. Can Loyd Star avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
