Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Peru's Winning Streak

After a string of seven wins, Peru's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They lost to the Saranac Spartans on the road by a 50-34 margin. The Nighthawks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Spartans earlier this season, when they won 58-52.

Despite the defeat, Peru saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Reese Duprey dropped a double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, Duprey now owns an excellent 45.3% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Garrow, who posted six points and six boards.

Peru's loss dropped their record down to 17-4. As for Saranac, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 17-3.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Peru will square off against Albany Academy for Girls at 7:30 p.m. on March 12th. Albany Academy for Girls will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Peru surely won't give up without a fight. As for Saranac, they will challenge Voorheesville at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
