Softball Recap: Westwood Sets Scoring Season-High Against Spring Valley

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Westwood). They blew past the Spring Valley Vikings 16-6 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Redhawks considering their two-run performance the contest before.

Annarea Wilson made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine games.

In other batting news, Azaria Belton and Nayanna Shannon did most of the damage at the plate: Belton scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Shannon scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Shannon a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Izzy Ridgeway, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2.

Westwood was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Westwood's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-12. As for Spring Valley, they dropped their record down to 2-10 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.
