Baseball Recap: Father Mcgivney Catholic's Run of 26 Straight Wins Now Over

Father McGivney Catholic dropped their record down to 28-3 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's 26-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the O'Fallon Panthers by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Griffins have suffered since March 21st.

Isaac Wendler put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Wendler wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Mason Holmes, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Scott Phelps, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

As for O'Fallon, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 20-8. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games.

On O'Fallon's side, they let Dane Hrasky and Anthony Perez run wild. Hrasky went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Perez went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Father McGivney Catholic and O'Fallon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Griffins will challenge Civic Memorial at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (7 vs. 158). Meanwhile, O'Fallon (ranked 20th) will meet Collinsville (ranked 144th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
