Basketball Recap: Noah Wright Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Downey

Sonora lost to Downey back in December of 2022, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Sonora Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 46-44 victory over the Downey Knights. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.

Sonora's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Noah Wright, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points. Wright continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Otterson, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Sonora's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Downey, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season.

Sonora and Oakdale will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Downey, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Modesto Christian at 7:00 a.m. on December 26th. Modesto Christian has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 201 points over their last three contests.
