Softball Recap: Wasilla Comes Up Short

Wasilla had lost five straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 2-6 to make it six. They fell just short of the Kenai Central Kardinals by a score of 6-5. The Warriors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Kardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Wasilla saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maylee Metcalf, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Madelyn Collins, who earned one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

As for Kenai Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1. Six seems to be a good number for they as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Kenai Central's side, the team relied heavily on Kayani Whicker, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. Those hits were Whicker's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Seylor Tomrdle, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wasilla will venture away from home to face off against Colony at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season. As for Kenai Central, they will take on Redington at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
