Football Recap: Bessemer City Comes Up Short

Bessemer City extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 1-8. They were outmatched by the Shelby Golden Lions and fell 67-0. While losing is never fun, the Yellow Jackets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 367th, while the Golden Lions are ranked 109th).

As for Shelby, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Considering they have won six matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Lan Farmer was his usual excellent self, throwing for 253 yards and five TDs while completing 90.9% of his passes. What's more, he racked up 169.5 passer rating, the most he's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Immanuel Collins, who picked up 67 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bessemer City will face off against Cherryville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Yellow Jackets will be up against the Ironmen's rather soft defense (which has allowed 30 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Shelby, they will take on Burns at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Lions will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 31 points in their last eight contests.
