Baseball Recap: East Lansing Wins Going Away Against Waverly

East Lansing barely beat Waverly the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans blew past the Warriors 14-4 on Thursday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Bodhi Alwin spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Paul Van Dam was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of East Lansing's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 3-13 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Ben Fletcher, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

East Lansing always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

East Lansing's win bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Waverly, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-5.

East Lansing and Waverly could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Trojans (ranked 352nd) will meet Forest Hills Eastern (ranked 16th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Waverly will challenge Okemos at 4:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank disadvantage (201 vs. 59).
