Basketball Recap: Holmes Takes a Loss

On Monday, the Holmes Aces ended up a good deal behind the Lakeland Cavaliers and lost 58-43. While losing is never fun, the Aces can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 351st in North Carolina, while the Cavaliers are ranked 168th in Virginia).

When it comes to explaining why Holmes lost, don't look at Tucker Baldwin. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points. Jaylen Russell also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Holmes has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. As for Lakeland, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

Holmes will head out on the road to face off against Northeastern at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th. Holmes is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.9 points per game this season. As for Lakeland, they will host King's Fork at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th.
