The South Lake Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Pine Ridge Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. South Lake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
South Lake came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against New Smyrna Beach, falling 7-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Eagles have suffered since April 19, 2024.
South Lake got a good showing from V Shields, who tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Shields gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.
At the plate, South Lake saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was C Weaver, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pine Ridge). They blew past Trinity Christian Academy 10-3 on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Panthers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Pine Ridge also got a great performance from Loren Cheatham as he tossed five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Kenny Capria was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Abiezer Robledo, who scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2.
Pine Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. South Lake's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Pine Ridge's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Lake has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. It's a different story for Pine Ridge, though, as they've only averaged .363. Will they be able to contain South Lake's hitters?
