Baseball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Zanesville Blue Devils

The Mt. Vernon Yellowjackets will head out on the road to face off against the Zanesville Blue Devils at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Vernon will be strutting in after a win while Zanesville will be coming in after a loss.

While Mt. Vernon's victory against Newark Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Yellowjackets had just enough and edged out the Green Wave 6-5 on Wednesday.

The team relied heavily on Nolan Hershberger, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Dammon Wolfe also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Zanesville didn't have quite enough to beat Lakewood on Wednesday and fell 3-1. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Lancers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Zanesville saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Greyson Goines, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Zanesville now has a losing record of 4-5-1. As for Mt. Vernon, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
