Baseball Game Preview: North Babylon Bulldogs vs. Newfield Wolverines

The North Babylon Bulldogs will head out to challenge the Newfield Wolverines at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Northport hit North Babylon with a five-run third inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Bulldogs came up short against the Tigers, falling 11-4. Surprisingly, this marked the Bulldogs' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

North Babylon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nick Atwell, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

The home team had won the previous two meetings between Newfield and Smithtown East, and Smithtown East kept the tradition alive. The Wolverines fell just short of the Bulls by a score of 2-1 on Saturday.

Newfield dropped their record down to 3-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Those road losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Babylon, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

North Babylon beat Newfield 10-6 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
