Softball Game Preview: Minersville Battlin' Miners vs. Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils

The Minersville Battlin' Miners will venture away from home to take on the Shenandoah Valley Blue Devils at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Minersville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.

Minersville barely beat Weatherly the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Battlin' Miners blew past Weatherly 15-3 on Thursday. The win continues a trend for the Battlin' Miners in their matchups with Weatherly: they've now won seven in a row.

Cali Laudeman tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Isabella Rizzardi, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Jacquelyn Motuk was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Minersville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .538. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Shenandoah Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 15-0 to Mahanoy Area.

Minersville's record is now 2-5. As for Shenandoah Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Everything went Minersville's way against Shenandoah Valley in their previous matchup back in April of 2023, as Minersville made off with a 16-0 victory. Will the Battlin' Miners repeat their success, or do the Blue Devils have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
