Volleyball Recap: North Reading's Undefeated Season over After Nine Games

If North Reading was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Georgetown on Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Hornets fell just short of the Newburyport Clippers by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. The loss was the Hornets' first of the season.

In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, North Reading sadly wound up on the wrong side. The match finished with set scores of 25-17, 24-26, 26-24, 22-25, 15-11.

Ella Maier paced North Reading's offense, picking up 13 kills. Maier got some help from Willow Koepke and her 36 assists. Maier also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Lucy Wells, each putting up four.

Having lost for the first time this season, North Reading fell to 8-1. As for Newburyport, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

North Reading didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-2 victory against Lynnfield on the 26th. As for Newburyport, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-2 win against Bishop Fenwick on the 26th.
