4A Greater Metro Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

A Season-Best Performance from Mozes Morris Leads Lake Norman over Cox Mill

Lake Norman was led to victory by Mozes Morris, who turned in his biggest game of the season on Friday. Morris rushed for 142 yards and two touchdowns, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now rushed for 111 or more in the last three games he's played dating back to last season.

Morris and Lake Norman will face off against South Iredell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats got just the result they wanted when they last faced the Vikings, probably because Morris had a solid game then too: he rushed for 79 yards and a touchdown. Can he match (or beat) that performance?

Johnson Made His Presence Known in South Iredell's 38-17 Win

Winning always takes teamwork, but on Friday Tyler Johnson stepped things up a notch to give South Iredell the 'W'. Johnson was dynamite, throwing for 143 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 60 yards on only seven carries. He has become a key player for South Iredell: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise.

If history really does repeat itself, Johnson might just drop another big game when he faces off against Lake Norman on Friday. Johnson rushed for 140 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries the last time he and the Wildcats duked it out back in October of 2023.

West Cabarrus had to have seen this coming; the last time they saw Norman it was a similar story. Back in October of 2023 (the last time Norman saw the Wolverines), he threw for 282 yards and three touchdowns on only 16 passes.
