Softball Game Preview: Silverado Skyhawks vs. Centennial Bulldogs

Silverado is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Thursday. They are taking a road trip to take on the Centennial Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. Neither Silverado nor Centennial posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Silverado and Basic meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Monday. Silverado came up short against Basic, falling 12-1.

Yvonne Jimenez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Centennial's offense. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Arbor View on Tuesday. Bulldogs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Aggies since on Tuesday.

Sloane Merrell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Centennial saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amanda Campos-Colon, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double was Campos-Colon's first of the season.

Centennial's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 3-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Silverado, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Silverado might still be hurting after the 15-5 defeat they got from Centennial in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Silverado avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
