Basketball Game Preview: Norcom Greyhounds vs. Maury Commodores

Norcom hasn't had much luck against Maury recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Norcom Greyhounds will head out on the road to square off against the Maury Commodores at 7:00 p.m.

Norcom came up into this matchup off a tough 20-point loss on Monday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Granby by a score of 48-45 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Greyhounds have suffered since January 31, 2024.

Meanwhile, Maury entered their tilt with Manor on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They walked away with an 85-72 victory over the Mustangs. Given the Commodores' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Mustangs are ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

This is the second loss in a row for Norcom and nudges their season record down to 6-6. As for Maury, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

Norcom might still be hurting after the 48-22 loss they got from Maury when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Norcom avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
