Softball Game Preview: Glenbrook North Spartans vs. Maine South Hawks

Glenbrook North hasn't had much luck against Maine South recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Spartans will host the Hawks at 4:45 p.m.

Glenbrook North fell victim to Glenbrook South and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Titans by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that the Spartans have lost by just one run.

Meanwhile, Maine South can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Evanston by a score of 7-2.

Sibelle Stevens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Those nine strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

At the plate, Peyton Santore and Aubrey Mazza did most of the damage at the plate: Santore went 3-for-5 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Mazza went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Emery Yates was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Maine South kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Glenbrook North's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-9. As for Maine South, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-6.
