Football Recap: Front Range Christian Falcons vs. Rocky Ford Meloneers

Front Range Christian took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They took their match at home with ease, bagging a 58-26 victory over the Rocky Ford Meloneers. The win was some much needed relief for the Falcons as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Gavin Gold had a dynamite game for Front Range Christian, rushing for 243 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 109 yards and two touchdowns. Gold's longest rush was for an incredible 85 yards. Charlie Warren also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

Front Range Christian's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. The picks came courtesy of Jackson Davenport and Warren. Warren also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, making five total tackles and defending a pass in addition to snagging an interception.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Front Range Christian was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 431 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rocky Ford only gained 289.

Rocky Ford is on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Front Range Christian will welcome West Grand at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Both might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran up and down the field in their prior games. As for Rocky Ford, they will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Walsenburg at 7:00 p.m. on September 20th.
