Baseball Game Preview: Reed Raiders vs. Sunny Hills Lancers

The Reed Raiders will take on the Sunny Hills Lancers in a tournament on Wednesday. Sunny Hills took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Reed, who comes in off a win.

Reed was handed a six-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over Grand Terrace.

Ryan Vanek spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up seven Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Reed's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-6 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Reed saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Goddard, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Luke Brown was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Sunny Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 12-5 to McQueen.

Sunny Hills also got a good showing from Diego Hernandez, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Sunny Hills' loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Reed, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.

Reed was able to grind out a solid win over Sunny Hills in their previous matchup back in March of 2022, winning 4-1. Does Reed have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sunny Hills turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
