The 14th Annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard passed through New Jersey on Tuesday, January 15 to recognize Holmdel (N.J.) High School and its boys soccer team for winning a state championship and earning a high national ranking.

Having upended Glen Rock 3-1 in the NJSIAA Group 2 state championship contest, the 22-0-1 Hornets won their second straight state title, earned the No. 13 ranking in MaxPreps' National Rankings and were celebrated by the Tour of Champions for the second year in a row!

In its eighth year of honoring boys soccer, MaxPreps and the New Jersey Army National Guard held a special trophy presentation in the Commons area of the high school, which serves as a cafeteria/lounge for the students. MaxPreps representative Matt Vecchione welcomed the entire school body as they convened for the lunch assembly and reminded them of the many accomplishments of the Hornets last fall.

Vecchione spoke briefly about how rare it is to be honored by the Tour of Champions two years in a row and then turned the program over to Staff Sergeant Gilberto Lamourt of the New Jersey Army National Guard. SSG Lamourt, who had the honor of presenting the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to head coach John Nacarlo, spoke of how proud he was to be a part of the presentation and how incredible it is for a relatively small school to be ranked in the top 15 nationally two years in a row.

Nacarlo was honored to place a duplicate trophy next to all of the state awards the Hornets garnered last fall, especially since the hardware from the TOC represents national recognition and supreme excellence. The Hornets were equally thrilled to share the Army National Guard national ranking trophy with the rest of the school and look forward to next year in the hopes that the TOC can deliver trophy No. 3!
