Softball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Pikeview

PikeView had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the Greenbrier East Spartans 6-5 on Wednesday. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Shelby Maddox was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Compton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Bella Delida, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

PikeView's record now sits at 21-6. As for Greenbrier East, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-12.

Greenbrier East wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 7-6 victory against Nicholas County on the 15th. Hopefully PikeView paid attention to the Spartans' game: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Spartans at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
