Softball Recap: Scotland Wins Going Away Against Southern Lee

Scotland got themselves on the board against Southern Lee on Friday, but Southern Lee never followed suit. They were the clear victor by a 16-0 margin over the Southern Lee Cavaliers. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Fighting Scots yet this season.

Avery Stutts made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Scotland let Emily Sampson and Addison Ratley run wild. Sampson scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Ratley scored two runs while going 1-for-2. The dominant performance gave Sampson a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Madison Dixon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-2.

Scotland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .692. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Scotland and bumps their season record up to 3-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Southern Lee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Scotland will challenge Union Pines at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Scotland's pitching crew has only allowed 0.5 runs per game this season, so Union Pines' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Southern Lee, they will face off against Pinecrest at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
