Football Recap: El Cajon Valley Falls to Mar Vista in First Game of Season

El Cajon Valley unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 27-17 to the Mar Vista Mariners on Friday. Sadly, the defeat continues a streak the team started last season, making it 11 in a row.

Although El Cajon Valley took the loss, they still got scores from Gavino Kendall-Pinal and Janvier Kashindi.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mar Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luke Everett, who rushed for 108 yards and one touchdown on only six carries. Everett didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made 18 total tackles. Ciontae Fewell was another key pass catcher, picking up 79 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Cajon Valley will welcome Hilltop at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mar Vista, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Victory Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
