Softball Game Preview: Edgewood Mustangs vs. Cascade Cadets

The Edgewood Mustangs will take on the Cascade Cadets at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Edgewood comes in on six and Cascade on 14.

Edgewood is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Northview 2-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mustangs have posted against the Knights since May 5, 2021.

ALLY BLAND spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 14 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Cascade got the win against Speedway on Tuesday by a conclusive 13-3. The Cadets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 13 games by six runs or more this season.

Lacie Godby made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Macey Pugh and Ava Allen did most of the damage at the plate: Pugh got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and one run, while Allen went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Caitlin Gryszowka was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Cascade kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in nine consecutive contests.

Edgewood's record now sits at 21-5. As for Cascade, their record is now 20-5.

Edgewood couldn't quite get it done against Cascade in their previous meeting back in April as they fell 5-2. Can the Mustangs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
