Basketball Recap: Wilson Skates Past South Florence with Ease

Wilson barely beat South Florence the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wilson Tigers blew past the South Florence Bruins 68-38 on Tuesday. The Tigers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 21 points or more this season.

Wilson's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Josh Leonard led the charge by dropping a double-double on 19 points and 15 rebounds. That's the most boards Leonard has posted since back in November of 2024. Tristan Thompson was another key player, going 6 for 12 en route to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

The victory was the third in a row for Wilson, bringing their record for this year to 12-7. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for South Florence, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-7.

Wilson and South Florence should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings. Wilson will take on Darlington at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd up 85 places (45 vs. 130). Wilson is looking to tack on another W to their ten-game streak on the road dating back to last season. Similarly, South Florence (ranked 39th) will meet Lower Richland (ranked 162nd) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wilson is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.9 points per game this season.
