Morgan was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Ogden on Friday. The Trojans blew past the Tigers 25-12. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won seven contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Eva Birkeland was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Kaiya Peterson was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, nine RBI, and three runs. Those nine RBI gave her a new career-high. Joesi Kelly also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Morgan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .487. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .303 or higher in nine consecutive matchups.
Morgan has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Ogden, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-11.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morgan will host West at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Ogden, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Layton at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
