Baseball Game Preview: Coshocton Redskins vs. Philo Electrics

Coshocton hasn't had much luck against Philo recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Redskins will head out to take on the Electrics at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Coshocton took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Crooksville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Redskins sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 win over the Ceramics on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Redskins as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Philo). They blew past Morgan 15-4 on Tuesday. The game was the first time the Electrics have beaten the Raiders on their field since May 15, 2021.

Josh Gooden made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Philo's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is undefeated (and 2-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Philo let Garrett Tom and Clayton Colborn run wild. Tom went 3-for-5 with four RBI, one triple, and one run, while Colborn went 2-for-3 with three runs and four RBI. Philo is 2-1 when Colborn posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Ky-Mani Philip also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Philo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.6 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.2.

The win made it two in a row for Philo and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Coshocton, their record now sits at 3-11.
