Mt. Zion is 8-1 against Charleston since October of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Braves will look to defend their home field against the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Charleston will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Mt. Zion extended their winning streak to three on Friday. The Braves walked away with a 35-23 victory over Mahomet-Seymour. The game was the first time the Braves have beaten the Bulldogs on their field since September 27, 2019.
Kellen Bollhorst had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 165 yards and three scores on only 15 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Keller Stocks was another key player, rushing for 88 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Mt. Zion was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Charleston). They skirted past Mattoon 37-35.
Charleston didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of GRANT TAGGART and DREY'SEAN EICH.
Charleston's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Mt. Zion, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Mt. Zion has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 368.4 total yards per game. It's a different story for Charleston, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 227.8 total yards. Will Mt. Zion be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Trojans flip the script?
Everything came up roses for Mt. Zion against Charleston in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-10 win. Do the Braves have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
