Baseball Recap: St. Bede Wins Going Away Against Newark

St. Bede had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Newark on Saturday. The Bruins blew past the Norsemen 12-3. The result was nothing new for the Bruins, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Alec Tomsha looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Stuart McGunnigal was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gus Burr, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

St. Bede always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

St. Bede pushed their record up to 21-4 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Newark, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-17.

Looking ahead, St. Bede will look to defend their home field on Monday against Seneca at 4:30 p.m. As for Newark, they will face off against Somonauk at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
