Preview: Trinidad Miners vs. Cotopaxi Pirates

The Trinidad Miners will head out on the road to face off against the Cotopaxi Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Trinidad is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.

Last Friday, Trinidad humbled Swallows Charter Academy with a 42-12 victory. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 26-0.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Trinidad to victory, but perhaps none more so than Monserrad Viera Flores, who scored ten points along with five assists and five steals. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for her. Jesse Gegelman was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine steals.

Meanwhile, Cotopaxi unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of Evangel Christian Academy by a score of 49-46. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cotopaxi in their matchups with Evangel Christian Academy: they've now lost three in a row.

Despite the loss, Cotopaxi had strong showings from Hayden Eggleston, who scored 18 points along with seven steals, and Eden Merrill, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Merrill scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abby Fieth, who scored six points along with nine rebounds and three steals.

The win got Trinidad back to even at 3-3. As for Cotopaxi, their loss dropped their record down to 5-1.

Things could have been worse for Trinidad, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 39-20 loss to Cotopaxi when the teams last played back in February. Can Trinidad avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
