Football Game Preview: Wheatmore Warriors vs. Walkertown Wolfpack

The Wheatmore Warriors will head out to square off against the Walkertown Wolfpack at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Wheatmore is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They came out on top against West Wilkes by a score of 21-14. The Warriors didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.

A big part of Wheatmore's victory came down to the chemistry between Connor Benton and his top target Bentley Mills. Benton threw for 231 yards and one touchdown while completing 78.9% of his passes while Mills picked up 137 receiving yards and one TD. Mills is becoming a predictor of Wheatmore's success: when he posts at least 80 receiving yards the team is 2-1 (and 1-7 when he doesn't).

Meanwhile, Walkertown's rock-solid defense showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout two weeks ago. They blew past Morehead 34-0. The Wolfpack might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 23 points or more this season.

Wheatmore better keep an eye on Nasir Conrad. He was instrumental in Walkertown's win, rushing for 154 yards and one score while picking up 9.1 yards per carry, and also picking up 64 receiving yards and one touchdown. With that strong performance, Conrad is now averaging an impressive 101.1 rushing yards per game. Jerrell Crawford was another key player, throwing for 223 yards and three TDs.

One reason for the win was Walkertown's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for ten sacks. Camereon Cartlidge led the group effort, picking up three of those sacks all by himself.

Wheatmore's record now sits at 3-8. As for Walkertown, their record is now 8-1.
