Baseball Recap: Aquilla Takes a Loss

Aquilla lost against Jonesboro two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cougars fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 6-5.

Brodey Woodward put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Woodward was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run.

In other batting news, Andrew Snipes was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-4. Another player making a difference was Coltyn Wilhite, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one double.

Aquilla's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Jonesboro, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season.

Aquilla is taking a road trip to square off against Gholson at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gholson has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.5 runs per game on average), something Aquilla will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Jonesboro, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Oglesby at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 8.5 runs per game this season.
