Baseball Game Preview: Murphysboro Red Devils vs. Goreville Blackcats

The Murphysboro Red Devils will head out on the road to take on the Goreville Blackcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Neither Murphysboro nor Goreville posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Murphysboro lost 8-1 to Steeleville on Thursday. The matchup marked the Red Devils' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Murphysboro saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gage Taylor, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Goreville fell victim to Pleasant Plains and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals.

Murphysboro dropped their record down to 4-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Goreville, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Murphysboro came out on top in a nail-biter against Goreville in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 11-10.
