It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but West had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They walked away with a 6-3 win over the Yucaipa Thunderbirds. Winning may never get old, but West sure is getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Dylan Smith was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Smith has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't pitched less than five innings in four consecutive pitching appearances. Smith was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with a home run and five RBI.
Smith wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Cale Omanson, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
West has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. As for Yucaipa, their loss dropped their record down to 16-11-1.
West will be playing at home against Westlake at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Westlake is coming into the contest with 14 straight victories on the road, so West will have to stop a team with plenty of momentum. Yucaipa does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
