Baseball Recap: East Duplin Comes Up Short

After soaring to 11 runs the game before, East Duplin was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Lenoir Blue Devils. The game marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Kyle Kern was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, East Duplin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Holmes, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

East Duplin now has a losing record of 2-3. As for South Lenoir, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with the victory, which was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season.

East Duplin didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 13-0 win against Kinston on the 18th. As for South Lenoir, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 13-3 defeat against Midway on the 18th.
