Softball Recap: Wilson Area Has No Trouble Against Jim Thorpe

Wilson Area's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They put the hurt on the Jim Thorpe Olympians with a sharp 20-9 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their one-run performance the game before.

Tessa Fredericks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 6.5 strikeouts per game. She was even better at the plate, firing off three runs, three doubles, and three RBI while going 4-for-5. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Abymarie Colon was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with two triples, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Schmitt, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

Wilson Area always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Jim Thorpe only posted an OBP of .406.

Wilson Area pushed their record up to 3-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Jim Thorpe, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Coming up, Wilson Area will square off against Lehighton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Jim Thorpe, they will challenge Pen Argyl at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
