Softball Recap: Barry Western Wildcats vs. Illini West Chargers

Barry Western was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They suffered a tough 16-3 loss at the hands of the Illini West Chargers. Barry Western was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Illini West apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

For Illini West's part, Madalyn Boyer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Boyer has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't pitched less than five innings in nine consecutive pitching appearances. Boyer was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI and a double.

In other batting news, Illini West got a massive performance out of Kaelyn Ferrill, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Rachel James, who went 1-for-4 with a home run and two runs.
