Preview: Potomac Wolverines vs. Gwynn Park Yellowjackets
Potomac is 0-10 against Gwynn Park since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Potomac Wolverines will be playing at home against the Gwynn Park Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. Potomac is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Thursday, Potomac was beaten by Largo 68-4. While losing is never fun, Potomac can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 267th, while Largo is ranked 76th).
In what's become a running theme this season, Gwynn Park gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They blew past Surrattsville, posting a 75-29 victory on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Gwynn Park has posted against Surrattsville since February 6, 2018.
Gwynn Park's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Davis Geormaya led the charge by scoring 14 points along with five rebounds. Geormaya continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Keira Mason, who scored 13 points along with nine rebounds.
Potomac's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 0-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 6.0 points per game. As for Gwynn Park, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.
Potomac took a serious blow against Gwynn Park in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, falling 66-16. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Potomac was down 41-13.
