Baseball Recap: Downers Grove North's Run of 15 Straight Victories Now Over

It was a good run, but Downers Grove North unfortunately witnessed the end of their 15-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Oak Park-River Forest Huskies. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Huskies apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Downers Grove North got a good showing from Zach Ziroli, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Ziroli has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brady Schallmoser made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Russ Oros also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Downers Grove North's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 15-2. As for Oak Park-River Forest, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season.

While Downers Grove North had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
