Baseball Game Preview: Marshall Hilltoppers vs. Proctor Rails

Marshall is 8-2 against Proctor since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Hilltoppers will host the Rails at 4:00 p.m. Marshall is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Marshall is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Cloquet get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Hilltoppers with their most commanding win of the season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Proctor, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They blew past International Falls 11-1 on Friday. Considering the Rails have won four matchups by more than nine runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Marshall pushed their record up to 7-0 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Proctor, their win bumped their record up to 6-2.

Everything went Marshall's way against Proctor in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Marshall made off with an 8-1 victory. Do the Hilltoppers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rails turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
