Baseball Recap: Granite City Warriors vs. Civic Memorial Eagles
Granite City extended their losing streak to five on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 5-14 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 6-0 to the Civic Memorial Eagles, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. If the Warriors were looking for revenge after losing 3-2 to the Eagles when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
As for Civic Memorial, they moved to 11-12 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. They not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 16-5).
For Civic Memorial's part, Chase Butler and Dane Godar did most of the damage at the plate: Butler went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Godar went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Godar a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Flowers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Granite City will head out to take on Althoff Catholic at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Civic Memorial, they will venture away from home to challenge Highland at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
